Active Living Physio is pleased to offer EXercise for Cancer to Enhance Living Well (EXCEL)! A research study, providing exercise programs to rural and remote individuals living with and beyond cancer, across Canada.

Did you know it's recommended to exercise if you have or have had cancer? 

Exercise has many physical and psychological benefits for those living with and beyond cancer:

  • Improves physical function
  • Improves ability to do daily activities
  • Boosts mood and energy
  • Enhances sleep and recovery
  • Increases social and emotional wellbeing
Feel better while living with Cancer!

The EXCEL supervised exercise program is a 12-week twice a week program with a Kinesiologist and can be done from the comfort of your home using a virtual platform (Zoom). 

The programs is designed to improve:

  • cardiovascular fitness
  • strength
  • balance
  • core stability and mobility

for those who have or have had a cancer diagnosis.

This program is part of an ongoing research study. To evaluate the study’s effectiveness, participants will complete a very simple fitness assessment before and after the exercise program, and will be asked to complete some questionnaires about their health history and symptoms.

Our Kinesiologist Robyn Smalley is Certified as an Excel Instructor and is leading a class! 

Program eligibility includes:

  • Have a cancer diagnosis
  • Be 18 years or older
  • Be able to participate in mild levels of physical activity
  • Have good English comprehension
  • Be pre-treatment, or receiving active cancer treatment, or have received cancer treatment within the past three years
  • Able to participate in a virtual program (e.g. computer/tablet/smartphone with video)
  • Live in Rural BC (not Metro Vancouver, Greater Victoria or Kelowna/West Kelowna)
